He didn't make it. I was the last thing he saw, He wouldn't look away from my eyes. I'm taking a day off from school tomorrow. Forgive me if I'm not present here so much for a while.

Kinja'd!!!

He was the sweetest, most caring, most intelligent dog you'd ever come across.

Sweet Dreams Mel..... For The Last Time.

That's what I hate about owning pets. Some day, I'm going to have to watch as my aging cat passes away.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure he's having a great time wherever he is.

That really sucks man, I've had to experience that in one way or another, it wasn't fun. I hope that your dog had a great life and lived that life to the fullest of his abilities. I know how bad this feels. He's in a better place now.

Sorry for your loss, Denver. Losing a dog is losing a friend forever, and that's one of the worst feelings in the world. He isn't suffering anymore, if there is any bright side.

Sad to hear man. EVERYTIME I lose a pet it's the LAST one I'm ever having, I hate the goodbyes but eventually, as part of the grieving process a new one will appear. Hope you can get through ok, Veronica needs you.

I grew up on a farm and our dogs were pretty interchangeable. I learned to deal with it at an early age. Now I'm an adult, married, and we have a mini Aussie that turns 1 in April. This little guy is different. Indoor dogs are different.

Fuck man, I can't imagine how hard that has to be. So sorry to hear that.

Go for a drive tomorrow. Turn off your phone and drive until you get lost. Literally drive somewhere you have never been and turn back when you think it's time. It's a great way to disconnect and can be super therapeutic.

I went for an hour drive tonight cause I have so much on my mind (post about that coming tomorrow). Came back feeling like a new man.

Take it easy man.

peace, man. Last year was a rough year on pets. We lost two, and numerous friends let furry companions go, as well. We feel for ya. Hope the dog had a good full life, and that another will join the family when the time is right.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I went through this with a dog I grew up with. It was really, really hard to go through, she was an incredible dog. But in a way it felt reassuring that she was no longer suffering and that she was in a better place.

If you ever need people to talk to, this is a great community to help you get through this. I hope you feel better soon.

It's the worst feeling ever. A couple years ago one of our cats had a heart failure (we knew it would come eventually due to a flutter discovered when she was young). She was stuck in an oxygen chamber, and we had to put her down. She was fighting all the way up until the very, very end. That desperate look in her eyes...it was rough.

So, yeah, I empathize entirely. :(

I wish there was something better, more soothing, to say than I'm sorry for your loss.

I understand what you're going through (at least, my own version of it) and it's just terrible. Our pets get into our hearts, and even though they're at peace when they're gone, the empty space they leave is so, so painful.

You and Mel will be in my family's thoughts and prayers. And you know how to reach me if a sympathetic ear would help.

I really feel for you and your family. Losing a family member is never easy nor does it get any easier.

Someone once told me your born once and die twice, the first when you leave this mortal coil and the second when you cease to be a memory of those left behind. Mel may of moved on but he lives on with you and those who's lives he's touched.

You'll remember him with sorrow but in time the memory of the happy moments will make that sorrow less painful.

Denver, man, I'm sorry. We recently lost one of our family members, she was 14. The old bastard would howl and was ugly as sin but I'll be dammed if I didn't love her. Losing a dog is terrible. Though you're probobly handling it better than me. I ended up feinting and throwing up once I woke up. Apparently I was making sporatic movements when I feinted and my grandma (my parents were out of the county at the time) called 911. Ended up spending most of the day in the hospital. So as long as you don't end up in the hospital you're stronger than I am! Lol

But seriously, it's going to be a rough couple of weeks but try and survive. Don't be afraid to cry, despite what anyone ever told you, crying does help.

It's hard. But also, you just got given a gift.

If doglet saw you, your love, your peace, your love, your respect, your love, you, for the last time, then in my book that's a win. The barriers at birth and death are sacred and there is nothing better (with reflection, and time) than being there.

Peace, Denver. Hold the memory. It's all any of us has.

I can't say anything that will ever make it better. Just know he's in a better place without any pain and as many butts to sniff as he'll ever want. I remember losing my dog when I was a teen and I never ever want to relive that.

Like Big Bubba Ray said, just go for a drive. Motorcyclists do it all the time; just go somewhere you've never been, turn your phone off, get lost, and try to find your way back a different way than the way you came. It's extremely therapeutic and will give you time to laugh, cry, and process.

All the best.

This is the one thing most of us dread to answer and hear. For some, it's an animal. For us, however, it's a part of our goddamned family that we cherish. I can understand how you feel, and I hope you'll find some closure to this, man.

Very sorry to hear of your loss...

Some people will say they're "just" dogs, but for some of us they are very much members of the family, and the pain is real when you lose them.

Kinja'd!!!

I know the feeling, with my older dog having had to be put down in May of last year. Will never forget the look on her face when that happened. At least she was in a comfortable setting with family. Sigh.

My condolences, thoughts, and prayers go to your family. Have a light truck. It is an exact clone of my neighbor's s10.
